Fort San Pedro
Visit Fort San Pedro or Fuerza de San Pedro to have a glimpse of Cebu’s rich history. The work on the fort was first started on May 8, 1565 by Spanish and indigenous Cebuanos under the command of Miguel López de Legazpi. Fort San Pedro is located in Plaza Indepedencia in the pier area of Cebu City.
Magellan’s Cross
Located next to Sto. Niño Church, is the chapel where the Magellan’s Cross is housed. The Cross is a Christian cross planted by Portuguese and Spanish explorers led by Ferdinand Magellan upon arriving in Sugbu (the former name of Cebu) to celebrate the Roman Catholic baptism of Rajah Humabon, his wife Queen Juana, and some of their followers on April 21, 1521.
Basilica del Sto. Niño
Just a quick walk from Fort San Pedro, you can already reach the Minor Basilica of the Holy Child, commonly known as Santo Niño Church. Considered as the oldest Roman Catholic church in the country, it was built on the spot where the image of the Santo Niño de Cebu was found in 1565 by Spanish explorers led by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi.
Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral
Still near Fort San Pedro and Sto. Niño Church is another Catholic church that you should not miss to visit while in Cebu City. The Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, also called as The Metropolitan Cathedral of the Most Holy Name of Jesus and St. Vitalis, is the ecclesiastical seat of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Cebu.
Taoist Temple
Located in Beverly Hills Subdivision in Cebu City, the Taoist Temple is one of the most popular tourist spots in the city. It was built in 1972 by Cebu’s Chinese community, and is the center of worship for Taoism. The temple is open for worshippers and tourists. You have to take a lot of steps to reach the temple, hence, make sure you still have the energy to go on.
Birhen sa Simala
The Church is currently located in Simala. The place is really astonishing and resembles a real castle. Statues of the guardian angels is located in the compound gate. There is also a huge replica structure of the Blessed Virgin Mary positioned at the church’s entrance.
Osmeña Peak
Dalaguete town located 80 kilometers away from Cebu City is known as the vegetable basket and summer capital of Cebu with its cool air and elevation. Most trekkers take the route from the town’s junction heading to Mantalongon market which takes 30 to 45 minutes.
Kawasan Falls
Kawasan is the most famous falls in the province of Cebu. It is located in the town of Badian, 130 kilometers southwest of Cebu City. Kawasan is a beautiful gift of nature where someone can enjoy an invigorating bath. The rushing icey cold water coming from the highland brings a chilling yet very refreshing sensation to the body.
Aguinid Falls
It takes around 4 hours to reach Samboan and you need to get off at the town proper where you can see a special landmark around shaped kiosk with a farmer statue on the rooftop. Why the statue was built on top of the structure.
Tumalog Falls
One of these natural wonders is the unique horseshoe waterfall of Tumalog Falls in Oslob, a municipality 170 kilometers from Cebu City. Lately, it has gotten a lot of attention after it became a side trip for people who wish to see the butandings.
Oslob Whale Shark
Whale sharks can be seen in a small barangay Tan-awan, which is 10 km away from the center town of Oslob. Large numbers of tourists began arriving in Oslob not just to see the whale sharks being fed but also to snorkel or dive with them.
Heritage of Cebu
A short walk from Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral, you will find the prestigious Heritage of Cebu Monument. Located in the original Plaza Parain in Colon Street, Cebu City, the landmark is a tableau of monumental sculptures showcasing the most important events in the history of Cebu from the time of Rajah Humabon to the recent beatification of Cebuano martyr Pedro Calunsod.
